[Character information]
Name: Sarah Williams
Canon: Labyrinth
Canon Point: Just after eating the peach and falling into the fevered ball scene
Age: 16 (Aged-up from 15)
Appearance: Sarah is of average height - about 5’5” and thin. She has long, dark hair, pale and flawless skin, dark eyebrows, and a very expressive face.
Inventory: A pouch of jewels, white shirt with puffy sleeves, cream vest with gold scroll work, jeans, brown shoes.
Abilities: Highly imaginative. Apparently summoned goblins once, but that could have all been a dream.
History: Wiki Article Note: I’ve aged her up to 16 to be eligible for the game. The first paragraph of the overview is essentially the backstory I made up for her anyway. The second paragraph explains what happened in the movie. From there, if you skip down to the section titled “Role in the movie,” you’ll get a full history of what happened in the movie.
Personality:
16-year-old Sarah walks a fine line between childhood and adulthood. When we first meet her, she seems firmly ensconced in childhood. She plays dress up, recites lines from her favorite play, and surrounds herself with, what many would consider, childish things. Her bookshelves are lined with fairy tales and children’s fantasy stories such as The Wizard of Oz. Her favorite dolls and stuffed animals are lined up in a display case. Even her bed looks like something out of a child’s princess room rather than a teenager’s.
Like any teenager, Sarah has an uneasy relationship with her parents. She resents having to come home early on the weekend to babysit her baby brother. She feels her dad doesn’t really want to talk to her anymore, especially evidenced when he knocks and then speaks to her through the door. As for her stepmother Irene, Sarah acts as though the woman is a wicked stepmother. Some of this is likely teenage rebellion, but some of it is also likely due to her fascination with fairy tales. Stepmothers are always wicked in the fairy tales.
Towards her brother, Sarah seems to feel something akin to resentment and anger. At the beginning of the movie she tells him a story that mirrors her own life up to this point. At the end of the story, she tells him to go to sleep and that she really does wish the Goblins would take him away. However, we soon see that all that resentment is not about him so much as it is about her situation. In fact, she’s more upset with her parents and is taking it out on Toby.
The minute Toby stops crying, Sarah is more concerned than anything. She tiptoes into the room, trying to see if the bundle of blankets is actually him or not. Upon realizing he’s gone, she handles the mass panic while goblins run through her parents’ room. Once Jareth, the Goblin King makes his presence known, she immediately asks for her brother back. Even after Jareth promises her a bauble that will show her all her hopes and dreams, Sarah would prefer her baby brother. Later, after she eats Jareth’s poisoned peach and forgets why she’s in the labyrinth, she is reminded of Toby and manages to get herself out of her haze to continue searching for the boy. Clearly, whatever anger she feels, she loves her baby brother very much.
Sarah also makes friends easily and tends to see the best in people without being afraid of them. Though she finds Hoggle repulsive upon first meeting, she does call him her friend even when he doesn’t truly deserve it. Sarah also saves Ludo from the goblins even though he appears to be a large and scary monster. Ludo turns out to be quite gentle and helpful as she makes her way through the labyrinth.
The labyrinth itself helps Sarah grow up. When she starts her journey, she regularly complains how the labyrinth isn’t fair. In fact, those are perhaps her favorite words in the whole show. “It’s not fair!” She finds the puzzles difficult, the tricks maddening, and she feels very put upon. As the story progresses, we find her becoming less self-centered. At one point she chimes in, “It’s not fair,” only to have an epiphany. She answers herself saying, “But that’s the way it is.” She makes more and more friends, helping people out such as Ludo, Hoggle, and even Sir Didymous. When they can’t make it across the bridge because Sir Didymous won’t let them because he swore an oath, Sarah is the one who is able to stop and calmly figure out the answer.
Even so, she is still only 16, and while strong and able to face her fears decently well, Sarah will still be a little self centered, and still find shadows in the dark. After all, she has a very vivid imagination.

Finally, the Bog of Eternal Stench was behind them and Sarah couldn’t taste it anymore. Even so, she would probably smell it forever. However, now that she wasn’t being assaulted by the smell, she was aware she was hungry. When had she last eaten? Ludo mentioned he was hungry and she agreed.
Hoggle was suddenly beside her, holding up a peach. “Oh thank you Hoggle!” she cried as she grabbed the peach and bit into it. And then everything got a little fuzzy.
“It tastes strange,” she began as she moved to steady herself on a tree. “Hoggle? What have you done?” Sarah heard music. “Everything’s dancing…”
Next she knew, Sarah found herself surrounded by people in masks and fancy clothes. Looking down at herself, she was also in a ballgown. She’d been looking for something. It was imperative she find it. What had she been looking for though. Was it the man with the hair? And the mask? Yes, that must be it. She finally found him, momentarily relieved when he led her into a dance. But something still wasn’t right. She could feel it in her gut. There was something else…
They danced past a clock. She was running out of time! Sarah looked at him, looked at the clock again, and ran. She ran until she bumped into a glass wall. She didn’t wait to think her way through it; Sarah grabbed the nearest chair and swung it to the glass, breaking everything and falling hard to the ground below.
When she opened her eyes again, Sarah found herself in a hallway that stretched forever in front of her. Only it didn’t look like the labyrinth. Everything looked too… institutional. But where else could it be?
Groaning, she stood and started walking. “Hoggle? Ludo? Is anyone there? Sir Didymous?”

[The camera moves back and forth, and sometimes spins around, as if whoever is using it has never seen one before. Sometimes it looks at a wall, sometimes at the face of a young girl. She looks confused, a little sad, but also curious.]
Hm… what are you? I’ve never seen something like this before.
[The camera focuses on her face once again as she pushes the button.]
Oh! I wasn’t expecting that. What happens if…
[Everything goes silent as she touches an icon, though her brow furrows. While no one else can see what is happening, she clearly did just see something happen.]
Hello? Can anyone hear me?
